Clover Woods offers hundreds of acres worth of memories and fun

Over the last several decades, generations of Iowa 4-Hers have traveled to the Iowa 4-H Center (camp) between Madrid and Luther in rural Boone County to make memories, forge new relationships, and enhance their skills.

In recent years, the camp has been re-named to "Clover Woods Camp & Retreat Center" but it is still owned by the Iowa 4-H Foundation and is still used by 4-Hers from all corners of the state.

But Clover Woods is not just for 4-Hers anymore.

It's open to rental by other non-profits, churches, businesses, organizations, families, and more who want to utilize the facilities for day or overnight events, meetings, retreats, and more. It's an amazing place, at reasonable rates, to enjoy the stunning natural beauty of the Des Moines River valley, and re-connect as a family, business, or organization. Or perhaps, it's a great place to "disconnect" from the world and our addiction to technology.

Admittedly, I might be a bit biased as I come from a strong 4-H lineage and I serve on the Iowa 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees, which owns the camp. That said, I think many of the photos speak for themselves about how gorgeous this site truly is. I recently toured the camp with some colleagues.

There are cabins available for rent and a handful of venues that can handle larger or smaller meetings or events.

The building with the red doors is a newly built "safe room" that can be utilized in case of serious or dangerous weather conditions.

There are other amenities on the grounds with more planned for the future.

Currently, there are areas of the more than 1000 acres that are closed for renovations but there is still ample space to explore and utilize.

It is under full-time management by United Camps, Conferences, and Retreats and they offer a great run down of what is available and at what prices.

Check out this virtual tour of the camp.

The next time you or someone you know is thinking of hosting an event somewhere (year-a-round!), I hope you'll give Clover Woods some consideration. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

As always, I welcome your suggestions of places to visit and profile whether in Boone County or any of the other 98 counties in Iowa. If you have a good idea or would like to host the Iowa Adventurer, please drop me a note through this website.
