From spirits to SPAM, 502 Grill House in Iowa Falls offers a deliciously diverse menu

Iowa Falls, known as "The Scenic City", is the largest city in Hardin County. At just over 5,200 residents as of the last census, it's definitely a town that can support a number of different eating establishments. From pizza, subs, and breakfast to Chinese, Mexican, and fast food, there is a modest variety of dining choices. However, if you are looking for a place that is not only open a broad spectrum of hours but also offers a variety of seating options and a diverse menu, you'll probably want to check out 502 Grill House in downtown Iowa Falls.

Since my aunt is a long-time resident of the community and it is a relatively central area of our state, Iowa Falls has become a place where our family has often met up over the years. On a number of different occasions, we have dined together at 502 Grill House and I've never had a bad meal there. On a recent Saturday, a group of us stopped in again.

502 Grill House is located at the intersection of Highway 65 and Washington Street, which is the equivalent of Main Street. If you've never been to Iowa Falls, Washington Street is home to a lot of businesses and very lovely buildings.

They have even added a few signs as part of the streetscape to remind you of the area's rich history as well as it's branding as our state's "Scenic City".

There's not a dedicated parking lot, but there is usually ample street parking nearby.

The building next door has its windows decorated with illustrations depicting scenes from The Wizard of Oz.

Inside, you'll find a building that has a lot of both historic charm and industrial features. From exposed brick and wood floors to a decorative tin ceiling tiles.

The walls are adorned with unique decorations, historic pictures, and beautiful lighting.

From tables and booths to spots at the bar, there is a variety of seating options.

Of course, there are a few televisions above the bar as well. They were all set to March Madness.

As noted earlier, the menu is quite diverse, both for food and drink, and there is a very high likelihood that everyone in your party will find something to enjoy.

Throughout the week, they offer specials including Prime Rib on every Friday night.

One of the more unique items on the menu is the Owassa Style Fried SPAM Sandwich. Owassa is a nearby town and of course SPAM is the "versatile" pork product produced by Hormel in Minnesota.

I kind of regret not trying it but I instead got the Fred burger and fries, which was very good. The Fred is served on a pretzel bun with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle. Additionally, there is a slice of pepperjack cheese, bacon, pico, and chipotle mayo.

Others at my table enjoyed other sandwiches or salads. My niece and nephew had items from the children's menu. I don't think anyone left hungry!

There's a lot more to see and do in Iowa Falls - it's a town with a lot of natural beauty, history, business, and opportunity. The next time you are in the area and find yourself looking for a bite to eat, you will not find yourself short of dining options. However, I do not think you can go wrong by stopping into the 502 Grill House.

I will hopefully be back again soon to try a few other restaurants.

In the meantime, I welcome your suggestions of places to visit and profile whether in Hardin County or any of the other 98 counties. If you have a good idea or would like to host the Iowa Adventurer, please drop me a note through my website.
