The Coffee Attic and Book Cellar aim to be a cultural hub in downtown Iowa Falls

In beautiful downtown Iowa Falls, "The Scenic City" of Iowa, there is a cozy business which offers three levels of very unique space. Open since 2001, The Coffee Attic and Book Cellar is a staple of the community and they bill themselves as a "cultural hub in which people can come to socialize, appreciate some local art, have a bite to eat, enjoy a great cup of coffee, and relax."

On the main floor is The Coffee Attic which looks very much like a lot of popular coffee shops in both bigger and smaller towns in Iowa. They offer a wide variety of beverages from espresso, lattes, cappucinos, and regular coffee to smoothies and tea. They also have a limited food menu including pastries, cookies, muffins, scones, paninis, and breakfast sandwiches.

I like that they brand themselves as "coffee for independent thinkers" and encourage patrons to support independent small-town shops like this one.

I enjoyed a small cup of light roast coffee with some skim milk. It was high quality.

There is more for sale than just beverages and food on this level. From artwork and wine to apparel and drinkware, you can probably find something nice for someone special.

They are an avid supporter of the arts. According to their website, they give local artists an opportunity to showcase and sell their work. Each artist can get an opportunity to showcase and sell their work for 3 months.

Roger Lugo currently has some art on display and for sale.

There's a number of different tables and seats on this level of the building.

Speaking of arts, you can even sit down at a piano and tickle the ivories, if you want to "espresso" yourself in that fashion.

Near the front door is a bulletin board with community announcements but also a place where you can pin coffee sleeves. As my aunt, a long time resident of the community explained to me, you can buy someone a coffee beverage and leave the sleeve on the wall. If they come in, they can find the sleeve and enjoy the beverage. You can buy it for someone specific or leave it for just anyone with a generic message. It's a unique way to pay it forward.

If you go up a small flight of stairs, you can get to the loft. It is a comfortable space that can be utilized for private events, such as showers, meetings, or club events.

As you can see, there are both tables and chairs or lounging chairs that would be a great place to study or curl up with a good book and a great cup of coffee.

On the lowest level is the Book Cellar. I always love a good pun (cellar/seller). The walls are lined with bookshelves full of very reasonably priced new and used books. They are regularly taking book donations in case you have something that you want someone else to enjoy.

These romance books are only $1.00!

In the middle of cellar is a series of tables that can probably also serve as good place for a bigger meeting or pull them apart for a bunch of smaller parties.

There are also a couple of more comfortable chairs with a very unique coffee table.

I don't know if this throw pillow is for sale but it is certainly quite accurate.

I've been to the Coffee Attic and Book Cellar on a number of occasions and always look forward to stopping in. It's definitely a place where community happens.

If you want to know what's going on in Iowa Falls, I would imagine this is the place that has a pretty good pulse on things. Iowa Falls is fortunate to have this as there's a lot of towns of similar size that do not.

As always, I welcome your suggestions of places to visit and profile whether in Hardin County or any of the other 98 counties in Iowa. If you have a good suggestion or would like to host the Iowa Adventurer, please drop me a note through my website.
