Wallingford in Emmet County is more than just the hometown of Deez Nuts

Upon checking out the Wikipedia page for Wallingford, Iowa, I found that they have a notable resident: Deez Nuts, the fictional candidate for the presidential election of 2016. Shortly after officially "filing" as an independent candidate with the Federal Elections Commission, Deez Nuts became an instant media phenomenon. Brady Olson of Wallingford was the guy behind it all.

However, there is more to the town than just being where a fun fictional candidate for President got its launch. On a recent weekend, I visited the town with my brother and cousin. Clocking in at just under 200 residents, it's a small farming community south of Estherville in Emmet County.

Highway 4 runs on the west side of town.

The railroad is an important part of the founding and history of the town and there is still a set of tracks that cuts down through the middle of it.

Of course, as we are in the middle of farm county, there is a large grain cooperative that also provides products and services used by the local farmers.

There are several buildings in the downtown area of town, including a restaurant and bar simply and aptly named "The Pub". We did not stop in on this trip but I will certainly add it to my list for a future visit.

There's also a post office, a community center, a city hall, and an emergency services garage, among other buildings.

On the east side of town, I found a county garage that is used for road maintenance.

The town is mostly comprised of single family homes and I found a number of nice but modest dwellings.

I found a beautiful Lutheran Church in the heart of the town.

I also found a park with a ball field.

I enjoyed my visit to this quaint community. There's a lot more to see and do in Emmet County and I look forward to getting back again soon.

In the meantime, as always, I welcome your suggestions of places to visit and profile whether in Emmet County or any of the other 98 counties in Iowa. If you have a good idea or would like to host the Iowa Adventurer, please drop me a note through this website.
