Once featured on Cupcake Wars, Crème Cupcake is a Des Moines dessert destination

Since launching as a cupcake shop in the popular Ingersoll neighborhood of Des Moines in 2010, Crème Cupcake has built a loyal fan base, grown it's offering of sweet treats, and even competed on the popular Food Network television show "Cupcake Wars".

On a recent evening, Crème hosted a full restaurant of DSMHummingbirds, a group of local community builders that I happen to be part of, for an evening of sweet treats and spectacular craft cocktails.

I've popped into Crème a few times over the years and watched when they were on Cupcake Wars, as my high school friend Jessica was part of the team competing with owner Christina Moffatt.

Yes, their business name includes "cupcake" and they do those quite well. They have a wide selection of scrumptious flavors. They are even able to print edible logos or images that can be added to your dessert, which is something that would be great for corporate gatherings. Our Hummingbirds logo was added for the evening.

However, what maybe is not abundantly clear is that they have a wide selection of other desserts available, too.

I tried a little of this scotcheroo and chocolate chip cookie. Two thumbs way up on both!

I also got the opportunity to take home a dessert, and so I selected this chocolate peanut butter cheesecake. Heavenly.

Even when sending it home with me, they took great care to present it beautifully. It was like an edible piece of art.

Crème has a sizable bar and they can make any array of craft cocktails for you to enjoy. They also have non-alcoholic beverages, beer, and wine available.

You can check out their impressive menu, which is detailed on their website.

If you are holding a special event there, as the group I am part of was that night, they will develop a specialty cocktail for your event. They created something quite delicious called "Flutter By". Obviously, that fit well with my "Hummingbirds" group.

However, they also offer monthly specials and since it was July and not far from the 4th, the "Patriotic Punch" was like a bomb pop mixed with some alcohol.

Crème will make some of their masterpieces for weddings and other special events. There were a couple of examples on display.

Whether you are just looking for something sweet to enjoy, need a caterer to make your event extra special, or want to enjoy a drink and something delectable with a friend or a date in their "lounge", Crème is a great choice to consider. Not to mention, it's one of the few establishments in Iowa that can claim they have been prominently featured on national television show.

As always, I welcome your suggestions of places to visit and profile whether in Polk County or any of the other 98 counties in Iowa. If you have a good idea or would like to host the Iowa Adventurer, please drop me a note through this website.
