On Thursday evening, I adventured up to Ames with a friend to take in the Big 12 opener for my alma mater, the Iowa State Cyclones.
Prior to this game, Iowa State was 2-1 with the only loss being an overtime heartbreaker at the hands of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
This was a rare non-Saturday game. When you agree to these kinds of games, you trade losing some fans in the stands who simply cannot get to Ames mid-week but you gain a nationally televised audience in prime time.
If it's been awhile since you have been to Jack Trice Stadium, I would highly encourage a return visit. The game-day atmosphere has been ratcheted up big-time with the completion of the south end zone (Sukup End Zone Club).
The late September weather was perfect and given Texas' early season struggles, there was hope that the Cyclones might be able to chalk up an early season conference victory. Unfortunately, that was not the case and the Longhorns "hooked" the Cyclones 17-7.
I look forward to future adventures in Story County. If you have suggestions for future Iowa adventures, please send them along.
