After a busy morning or afternoon of shopping along Sheldon's Park Avenue (Highway 18) corridor, which might include stops at favorites such as Laura's Vintage Therapy, Village Treasure Chest, and Fantasia, you will have probably worked up quite an appetite.
Luckily, just up the street at the junction of Highway 18 and the 4-lane Highway 60, you can find Sheldon's finest Chinese cuisine: The Chinese Chef.
It is located in a strip mall, which also includes a hair salon, Mexican restaurant, nail salon, and more.
Since coming to Sheldon in the 1990's, Chinese Chef is now in its third location but the food has stayed consistently delicious.
Admittedly, it had been a few years since my last visit but I ordered the sweet and sour pork, which came with a homemade egg roll and rice. I failed to take an "after" pic of my plate, but it would have been basically licked clean! I also dined with my brother, who had the sweet and sour chicken, and my aunt, who had the beef and broccoli.
There is nothing particularly fancy about the place but the food is good and the service is very fast. They offer a wide variety of menu options that can be enjoyed in the restaurant, through carry-out, or via drive-thru.
This large picture of the Great Wall of China adorns one of the walls.
Obviously, my meal came with a fortune cookie and I am hoping it is not lying.
Check out the Chinese Chef on Facebook and add it to your list of possible stops if you are in Northwest Iowa or traveling along Highway 60 between Minnesota and Sioux City.
As always, I welcome your suggestions of places to profile as part of a future adventure. Please drop me a note through my website if you have a great idea for me to add to my own itinerary!
