Every once in awhile you pass some place and the sign simply catches your eye. You just feel a deep sense of curiosity set in and you just have to stop. That was the case for me on a recent visit to Dakota City, the county seat in Humboldt County. I was driving through town and headed to lunch at Pasquales Pizza in Humboldt. However, I soon discovered Balloons Galore Trinkets and Treasures Thrift Shop and I had to make a quick detour.
It's located in an old brick building along the business district in town.
If you are going to advertise that you have "balloons galore", I expect that to be true. Turns out, this place does indeed have an exceptional selection of helium balloons for purchase.
Of course, they also advertise themselves as a thrift shop with lots of treasures and trinkets. That is also true. From furniture and kitchen accessories to clothing and trinkets, the entire place was packed with possible deals.
I found a couple of cute items that had some laughable insignia printed on them. I, however, did not buy them - so they are potentially still for sale if you hurry!
There was a large selection of Scentsy and Avon products as well as lots of different perfumes and colognes.
This was a quick but fun stop. Sometimes you just need to give into your curiosity. Often, that is when you find the best adventures.
There are lots of other interesting things in Dakota City and I will need to get back there to check it out. In the meantime, I welcome your suggestions of places to visit and profile whether in Humboldt County or any of the other 98 counties in Iowa. If you have a good idea or would like to host the Iowa Adventurer, please drop me a note through my website.
