Now in its 17th year, Winefest Des Moines has developed into one of the premier annual events in the Des Moines metro. The foundation behind these events exists to promote, educate, and celebrate the wine industry through wine and culinary partnerships on a local and global scale.
The foundation and the festival helps to enrich the cultural and economic fiber of central Iowa through event-driven advocacy, education, and awareness toward arts and culture. Every year, hundreds of thousands of dollars are raised through these events to support worthy endeavors that are tied to the arts, culture, and education.
But Winefest is not just a one day or weekend event - it's a full week of events in early June that offers a wide variety of memorable and enjoyable fun.
Leading up to Winefest, the foundation holds a few preview events and Iowa Adventurer was fortunate enough to be invited one of them.
This particular event was held at the beautiful Witmer House, a historic mansion on Grand Avenue in Des Moines. This area of Des Moines is one of the oldest and most affluent parts of town.
Prior to Terrace Hill being designated as the Governor's residence, the Witmer House served that role for many decades. In recent years it has served a few different roles, including as office space. However, now the new owners are lovingly renovating it and they have turned it into a beautiful event venue with gorgeous and elaborate furnishings.
The event I attended was sponsored by Iowa Realty and it coincided with the unveiling of this year's official poster.
There were many rooms full of decadent sweets and savory hors dourves. Of course, there were many different types of amazing wine.
I hope you can make it to one of their many upcoming upcoming events. You can also order tickets from their calendar page. They range in price from $15 a ticket all the way to $250 per ticket, depending on the event. Thus, there's something for everyone in almost any price range. They all embody different levels of formality, so think tasteful but bring your own style. I hope to get to one of the events during that week, so perhaps I'll see you there? These events are places to see and be seen. What better way to uncork your summer of adventures by checking out Winefest?
As always, I welcome your suggestions of places to visit and profile whether in Polk County or any of the other 98 counties in Iowa. If you have a good idea or would like to host the Iowa Adventurer, please drop me a note through my website.
